I’m newly pregnant and don’t have insurance. I was waiting to be added to my husband’s since his is better, then there was a lack of communication when the time came to make changes. We also make way too much for medicaid. We found a midwife who will charge $2900 for all appointments and delivery, minus ultrasounds and lab work. (Side note, is that good? Ultrasounds are around $275 and I’ll get 2-3) But I know the biggest cost of all will be the hospital stay. I started trying to find costs, but then I realized I’ll be covered about 3 months before my due date. He doesn’t think that it will be covered if I’m already pregnant, but I thought aca made it illegal not to cover it. I know it is illegal not to have prenatal coverage at ALL, but is that only if it’s already established? I did a quick search that said they can’t deny me coverage, but as far as I know you’re never denied anyway if it’s through work, and I know that it’s been impossible to find private insurance so something doesn’t seem to add up. I do also know when I first found out I don’t qualify for medicaid, I found a YouTube video of a woman who didn’t have insurance but wasn’t worried because she had recently started a new job and would be covered through them soon. She ended up losing that job so I guess it’s a possibility she was just wrong, but she seemed sure.
