My projected household income is going to a little higher than expected when I first did my application for this year (but still with subsidy) so i went healthcare.gov to report that. At the end of reporting this “life change” it told me my new subsidy amount, which was now slightly lower, and GAVE ME AN OPPORTUNITY to pick a new plan! I kept the same one because I didn’t have a reason to change, but it occurs to me that this is a method of getting out of a plan you hate. My income numbers are only guess/projections at this time and I’m sure that’s true for many of you.
Caveat: if you’ve built up partway to a high deductible you would be starting over. Also, once you start the “report a life change” you have it makes you go over every question on the application. I kept everything the same except that one household member expects about $4000 more in business income. This reduced my monthly subsidy by $50 FYI.
