ACA & Adding Dependent to Insurance

Hello everyone,

I’m not sure if this is the best place to post or not; if you have a suggestion for a better subreddit, please let me know.

My wife and I plan on having a baby next year. I’m a planner and am trying to figure out how the insurance situation will work.

I’m self-employed and buy my insurance through the marketplace. My wife works for a small bank (less than 50 employees–we think) and has her insurance through them. She CAN add dependents to her insurance, but it’s prohibitively expensive. Would I be able to add our baby to my insurance since they would technically be eligible for insurance through my wife?

I understand that we may not qualify for ACA subsidies because of “the family glitch.” (Could we potentially, though, since, with less than 50 employees, they are not required to cover dependents?) Regardless of whether we qualify or not though, my primary question is if we’ll be ABLE to put the baby on mine, which is still cheaper than putting them on my wife’s.

Thank you.
