Had a weird conversation with someone at my health insurance provider’s call center just now…

We’re taking a trip where we’re being asked for a negative COVID test within 96 hours of departure. It cannot be an at-home test, and must be proctored. I called to check on our coverage for this. She said that simple travel testing isn’t covered, but if we’ve had, “ANY SYMPTOMS- ANYTHING AT ALL that could medically justify a test…those tests would be covered.”.

She never said it, but her tone was crystal-clear: She encouraged me to commit “light” insurance fraud.

So, do we come out of pocket for ~$260 worth of tests, or do we suddenly realize that our sense of smell is a little “off”?
