Hello Reddit! End of January I broke my arm most of the bills seemed reasonable until yesterday when I received the bill for the day my cast was applied.
The day I got my cast I went to the in network orthopedics office, had an X-ray, spoke to the dr for five minutes tops, had a cast put on, and left.
Cut to yesterday when I got the bill. That day I was billed 1638 of which I owe 863.
Almost everything makes sense on the bill with the exception of a 939 charge for SURGERY of which I owe 714.
That’s very strange – I didn’t have surgery. So I called the provider, they told me this was how they code fracture care – ie the application of the cast. This seems incredibly high to me.
I am curious if anyone has experience with this? Does this seem like an out outrageous amount of money to anyone else? Is there anything I can do?
