Fiance is pregnant and just learned she’s no longer under her mother’s plan.

We live in California, and prior to this month we were under the understanding that her mother was covering her via her insurance plan with Aetna. My fiance is 23, 8 weeks pregnant, and we learned from the clinic that her name is no longer on the plan, although even today her mother swears she is. We have since tried to go through our employer, but they state we don’t fit requirements for a special enrollment period.

So TL/DR My fiance just found out she’s pregnant and uninsured, and it’s not open enrollment at the moment. What can we do to find an insurance that covers the pregnancy AND the childbirth. (She doesn’t qualify for medical because working minimum wage full time is like 3x the income limit). It almost seems like the best option is for her to quit her job and THEN sign up for medical, but we don’t want to mooch like that.

Alot of the things we are finding via Google at the moment seem more like Phishing schemes than actual things. After sharing her phone number on the covered California page we had to set her phone to do not disturb thanks to the 15 calls an hour all saying she doesn’t qualify for -insert company here-
