Out of pocket costs for “preventive” care

I just saw the bill from my most recent annual checkup and was thrown off by the out of pocket costs. I got a metabolic panel, TSH, and pap/HPV. The metabolic panel and TSH were in my queue as “due” and while the pap/HPV was not the normal every-5-years, it was a retest since the last one was abnormal. Was I wrong in assuming these would be covered? If so, this is going to change how I approach annual checkups from now on and I’ll need to ask that my doctor not request these unless we really need to.
