Can my employer ask for what I was in the ER for if I’m on a self funded plan?

I posted in legal advice and was told that you guys would be able to explain this better to me .

For backstory, made a big mistake recently in nyc and accidentally overdosed on a legal drug. I expect the ER and ambulance bill to be high (assuming like at least 6k before insurance). There was no legal citation or anything like that (just had a panic attack and called an ambulance myself) . Anyways I’m wondering if my insurance covers this, will my employer know exactly what happened ? I know the plan is self funded but administered through a third party (UMR). I’m fine with them knowing I was in the ER just don’t want them to know why (mostly embarrassment but also think they may use it against me)

From what legal advice told me, I don’t have anything to worry about, but just curious how the mechanics work? From what I read online it led me to believe that in self funded plans the employer can pretty much request any information about you.
