Expensive (Experimental) Bloodwork?

Last summer (2021), I had some bloodwork done to see if I’d test positive for Lyme disease after being bitten by a tick w/ a year prior to it (in 2020). Of the blood tests I did, a couple of them were apparently experimental.

Soon afterwards, I received an explanation of benefits (EOB), stating specifically it’s not a bill, from my health insurance (Aetna). The EOB stated that I may be responsible for paying up to nearly a grand, although it seemed to be pending. I never received a bill from anyone other than LabCorp for the work which I paid in a timely fashion. I still haven’t received any updates, but just in case I have a pending bill and to avoid anything from going into collection, I gave them a call today and it was a mess– I was transferred to 3 people over the course of 1+ hour only to tell me that their claims team would give me a call back in the next few days.

Since I never received a bill (as this may still be pending) and since I was never warned that these bloodwork were experimental and thereby not covered, am I still potentially responsible for paying nearly a grand?
