My wife left her job recently so we’re looking for new insurance. By accident I went to Healthcare.COM instead of the gov site. Talked to an agent who told me about a deal that sounds too good to be true: FirstHeath PPO, $550 for both of us (in our 40s), $35 copay for doctors, no deductible, and because it’s a PPO vs a HMO (I don’t know the difference) it sounded like ‘every’ doctor was covered. In contrast, a few weeks ago my wife found a plan that’s $600/mo (a quarter of her monthly income) with $5000 deductible, I have insurance via ACA that’s $250/mo but with a $8700 deductible and barely any of my heath providers are included (naturopath, PT).
So is this too good to be true? Should I trust a source that’s set up by ‘health insurance experts’ given the horrible track record that the health insurance industry has in this country?
