I’m going to see an oral surgeon to have my wisdom teeth removed. The oral surgeon’s office wants the deductible ($400) and another $50ish fee upfront. The office said they had spoken with my health insurance company and that they told them it would be a $400 deductible (which is my correct deductible)
Anyways I called my insurance to confirm this and double check everything was covered but my insurance company told me not to pay my deductible up front and that the deductible will go to whoever bills them first (the oral surgeon or the anesthesiologist) and whoever bills second will be covered. They said if I paid the deductible to the oral surgeon tomorrow I’d be on the hook to pay it again to the anesthesiologist if they’d be first and it’s be on me to get reimbursed from the oral surgeon.
Does that sound right? Is it typical to pre pay the deductible?
