Implications of having coverage from two High Deductible Health Plans?

Short summary of what me and my wife are thinking through….

I am moving from government employment to private. We are currently on my works $250/mo standard health plan, with solid coverage and a low deductible. Attempting to eat up as little of my raise as possible with the new health insurance.

Both our companies offer HDHP and Standard Plans.

My future company HDHP: Free, 7,000 (in-network) / 20,000 (out-network) deductible, 13,000 (in) / 40,000 (out) out of pocket, 30% co-pays. $1,000 / yr HSA contribution.

Her current company HDHP: 336/month, 3,000 (in-network) / 6,000 (out-network) deductible, 6,000 (in) / 18,000 (out) out of pocket, 10% co-pays. $750 / yr HSA contribution.

Or, we do individual health plans. My wife tends to have more medical bills than myself. Her HDHP would be $120/mo and mine would be free.

Other option: Really good standard plan similar to what we have now but it costs $700 / month (an increase of $450/month). Eating about half of my raise.

I much prefer her companies HDHP plan, at a similar cost to what we are paying now. My plans out of pocket scare me.

My question: Can we do my wife’s HDHP AND my companies HDHP, that is free, to get the $1,000 / year HSA contribution?

Do you choose your “primary” coverage or will the two plans fight over this everytime there is a bill?
