I recently went for my first physical in a couple years. The doctor wanted to do some blood work. She then asked me to come back to redo the bloodwork in a couple weeks as some of my numbers were concerning.
A few weeks later I received 2 bills. My original appointment with a physical and bloodwork-$50 after insurance. That made sense.
I also received a second bill for $350 after insurance (they only paid 10%). It is united healthcare. I appealed online and it was denied. I called and they said the follow CDC guidelines when choosing what to cover for bloodwork. The portions that were concerning to the doctor were my white and red blood cells. I know what kind of grief customer service reps get these days, so I was polite. But that doesn’t seem to make sense to me. I pay about $12,000 a year for coverage and they won’t cover this. Is there any recourse, or I just need to suck it up. This just doesn’t seem correct.
