I’m being sent to collections over a bill I was told I would be sent a hardship application for several times already, so I’m already pissed at the provider, but I started looking into the original bill’s legality, and I’m trying to figure out if they could even legally bill be in the first place. I know balance billing is sometimes legal and sometimes not. I’m on a Medicaid plan in Florida, and was billed by an in-network provider for durable medical supplies related to my CPAP machine when United Healthcare (who administers my Medicaid plan) didn’t cover the full amount. On the claims on their site, I can see a line for each charge that says “Amount Not Covered by Plan:”. Are they allowed to bill me for that amount legally, and if so, what are my options to fight it? I make almost nothing and am always deeply in debt and need to try and get out of this if possible.
