My hospital billed me $1,000 after insurance for a lab test I had on 2/14. They never called me with the results from it – can I submit a claim to dispute the balance?

This was for a pulmonary function test. They told me it would be about a week or so for me to hear back the results but I have yet to get any communication from them.

Sadly I do not qualify for financial assistance as my husband and I make just over the threshold. But he’s a student, and I’m getting ready to give up my full time job to go back to school and this bill would set us behind financially.

I do take responsibility for not asking how much it would be after insurance, but American healthcare is so frustrating. Without insurance it would have been $1,600. Crazy. The billing department I called said insurances just started covering less for these tests recently. Ouch – A 2022 Valentine’s Day to remember, for sure. Makes me hesitant to ever get another lab test again, and it shouldn’t be this way.

Thanks for reading.
