There’s no way I owe the full amount right??

I just got my own insurance after being kicked off my parent’s insurance until they lost their jobs. My drs visit this week charged me $190 for a visit that was supposed to be $30 copay, and is now telling me that because I haven’t spent $5000 on medical expenses to meet my deductible, I owe them the full amount every time and it’s not covered by insurance. There’s no way that’s how it works right?? I can’t afford to spend $5000 in a year on medical expenses. I had no idea. I’m not sure I even want insurance if I can’t afford to use it.
