I got unemployed last year and went to the NYS ACA Market Place for insurance. I had made too much money to get assistance, and the ACA plans just SUCKED. So, I kept my COBRA for $800/month. Now that enough time has passed, the fact that I am 63 with no real job prospects, I hit the button on Social Security which will not start paying for a couple of months. I am too young for Medicare. So, I went on the NYS ACA Market Place, input the numbers, and it says I am on Medicaid, and I canceled my COBRA which only had a few months left. My COBRA insurance did not cover dental at all.
So, now what do I do? Is Dental covered on Medicaid? My dentist is pricey, and they are up-sellers. They are trying to get me to have two crowns, which I am not entirely sure I need, but I digress. I refused the crowns last year as the cost was $1100 per crown with no insurance for it. Today, I went for a cleaning, said I was on Medicaid, and they said that did not matter, they could not bill Medicaid. However, with tools in my mouth, they wanted to “schedule” one of my crowns, and I said reluctantly okay. However, I told them it would have to be in September (after the summer). Then today checking out, they tried to charge me $1500 for the crown! Shocked at the increased price, I said no, paid my $200 for the cleaning and left. I would not pay $1500 for a service to be delivered 4 months from now anyway.
Then a friend told me that Medicaid covers dental. Really? Does it? Should I find a Medicare dentist and have any work done there?
