I understand under the ACA parents are required to provide insurance until the age of 26, potentially longer, even if you are married, have children, financially independent and not a tax dependent.
My gf parents apparently cannot afford their previous health care plan.
I want to know if they are still legally obligated to provide coverage (a more expensive plan considering the previous point) or does that only apply when they have active coverage?
I have looked around the internet and find conflicting sources. Most saying that coverage is mandatory but I read somewhere that is only the case if they already have insurance.
TL;DR gf parents are poor and cannot afford coverage. Can she still make them?
Edit: sorry if flair is wrong.
