Chronic Illness, No Diagnosis, Losing Job and Insurance

Hi all, I need some advice…

I’m in my early 30s, am a software developer, and I’ve got a bit of a bad roll on the genetic dice. My older siblings (also developers) have had massive, chronic issues with their health which started when they hit their early 30s. They’ve run the medical gauntlet for years, but have never had a diagnosis stick.

My symptoms have now kicked in, in full force. I’m now unable to hold down a full-time job; I’m losing my current one in 2 months. They lowered my number of new contracts to 1, in an attempt for me to stay on in a limited capacity (probably wasn’t going to be able to handle even that, but was going to give it a try), but then that contract was cut.

What are my options? I have insurance through my job, for the next 2 months. Do I need a medical diagnosis to claim work disability? Do I need to file something with my insurance? With HR? If so, what? Do I have any options?

I’m currently running through as many tests my Doctor can throw at me, but, considering my siblings’ experiences, I don’t expect them to find anything conclusive. My siblings also never went down the insurance route. One was able to handle an easier job and the other is supported by their wife.

Details that may be useful: I’m in North Carolina and I have Cigna insurance.

Edit: I don’t even know if this is the right sub to post this question. If it’s not, then I’d appreciate it if you could redirect me.
