Hi, I am 25 and recently was approved for SSDI in California, Alameda county. Up until now I have had full scope free medi-cal due to my non-existent income. My monthly ssdi amount of 1641.10 before any deductions. After Medicare part b premium is taken out it is $1471.
My understanding is that medi-cal will pay for this premium as well as the premium for Medicare part d. The income limit for Medi-Cal is $1564 monthly. The issue is, is my ssdi amount too high for medi-cal now? If I apply to get my Medicare premiums paid by medi-cal, won’t that make my income too high for medi-cal?
Or is there an option to not have my premiums paid by medi-cal and therefore be getting $1471 which would be under the medi-cal limit and allow me to keep it?
My last question is sort of off topic. I receive Calfresh of $350 a month. The income limit for Calfresh is $1396. Does Calfresh count my ssdi income before or after Medicare premiums have been deducted? Ideally I would like to keep both my Calfresh and Medi-Cal. I’ve heard of needy spenddown programs, are there medical expenses I can deduct from my monthly ssdi amount to remain under the income limit for both Calfresh and Medi-Cal?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
