So I live in California and just became a full time employee. I received the info on the benefits and one of the details said that “working spouse or domestic partner cannot be covered if their job offers coverage”. Is this weird? She and I have been awaiting my full time employment because her jobs coverage is really expensive. I asked my coworkers and they suggested not acknowledging that her job offers coverage and just saying she doesn’t in order to get her covered under my benefits.
In that same area that I read that, it also states “you will be required to attest that your spouse is not eligible for employer sponsored benefits elsewhere”. Should I do what my coworkers are suggesting and just lie? They said that the insurance at my job isn’t going to go search for my fiancé’s job and if she can get insurance. Hopefully I am in the right place to ask this, thank you.
