I (28F) have insurance through my employer. I was approved for a bisalp last week and informed by my surgeon that they won’t do tubal ligation banding anymore and only full removal for reasons (ovarian cancer risk, ectopic pregnancy risk, etc) but my insurance only covers tubal ligation, NOT a bilateral salpingectomy. I called with the CPT codes provided to me and they said they would cover 80% after my deductible is met, and the procedure itself is $56K. So I’m looking at roughly $15,000 out of pocket. They would cover a tubal ligation in full, but I don’t even have the option to get one (outside of setting up consults with other in-network hospitals and paying the price of each consult 😓) and honestly I’d much prefer to get a bisalp as I’m entirely terrified at the thought of an ectopic pregnancy—especially with the state of the US. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any advice on what I should do? I can get cosmetic surgery cheaper than the co-pay I’m looking at for a bisalp ffs. I’m desperate to be able to get it done and horrified at the price.
