Maryland – Short term plan until individual plan kicks in

International student here, first time purchasing health insurance on my own. State: Maryland

Up until now, I was insured through work at the university. Since I just recently graduated, I am about to lose insurance at the end of this month. Right now, I am still looking for a job, no offer yet.
Since I qualify for special enrollment, an individual plan might be best for me as opposed to a short term plan (since I don’t know how long I will be unemployed).
Now the issue is that I am too late to apply for a plan starting January. Would it be possible to have short term insurance until the end of January and then start the marketplace insurance plan beginning February until I am eligible for insurance through employment?

Or would signing up for a short-term plan disqualify me from special enrollment?
