Question about premium tax credits when married

So I got married to my wife in September of 2020. She has health insurance, I don’t. She had to pick a new plan in October and the woman we spoke with told her she’d still get a tax credit but it would be split between her and I – so she could only get half the credit. We opted not to get insurance for me (I don’t really need it, and she does). The health insurance woman told us her payment would go from $360ish to around $460ish. Come to yesterday when I get on to pay the new bill for the first time and it’s $560. We asked the woman why it was so high, and she told my wife that because we opted to not get health insurance for me, she does not get the tax credit. I can’t find anything that says that’s how it works online, so I’m just looking for an answer. We live in Illinois, if that makes any difference. We don’t make over 400% of the poverty level (Our household income is around 65kish combined.)
