Accidentally Created a Coverage Gap – Options?

Hi everyone,

I started a new job a couple months ago, and decided to replace the coverage we had through my spouse since she’s not having a smooth pregnancy and my company’s PPO had better out-of-pocket ceiling/deductibles/more network freedom than her HMO. This happened during my latest open enrollment period which ended yesterday.

I told my wife she could cancel hers, but (and this is my fault) I wasn’t expecting her to go in and cancel the very next day (March 1st) with her HR, and since my new plan doesn’t go into effect until April 1st, we now don’t have coverage for the month.

Obviously with COVID and her pregnancy this is very scary, but she also had a very expensive ultrasound appointment on March 2nd that we are probably now on the hook for. Are there any avenues for her to get back on her old coverage for the month, or accelerate my enrollment with my company? Do I have any recourse at all? I live in a state that doesn’t allow short term/emergency plans.
