I called my insurance today to submit an appeal. Several hours later I received a phone call from my surgeons office (they left a message for me, I missed the call) and they told me that they started an appeal on my behalf for the same procedure.
In the denial letter sent from my insurance, they stated that “if a provider submits an appeal on your behalf, you can not submit another appeal”.
Given the timeline, I’m fairly certain that I submitted the appeal first, with my surgeons office calling after.
So a few questions:
1) Why would my insurance not tell my surgeon that I had already started the appeal process?
2) Are there going to be negative ramifications of this for my appeal?
3) What (if any) steps should I take to try to remedy this? Call my insurance to explain? Just wait it out?
I’m probably overly anxious, but i’m really hoping to get this approved. Any advice is appreciated!!
