I’m not sure if this is the right place for this question (and this is also my first post, lmk if I miss something regarding Reddit’s posting etiquette!), so here goes: I’m looking for advice on any local licensed practitioners in San Jose + Bay Area who specialize in diagnosing/testing adults for autism and ADHD — and who would work with MediCal Insurance.
I’m 27 (F) and started suspecting I might be on the autism spectrum around 6-7 years ago. Along with increasing awareness of symptoms and breaking of barriers in recent years, and through my own extensive research, I’ve only become more and more convinced. I also recently found out (about a year and a half ago) that some other symptoms and traits of mine apparently “scream” ADHD — and that there have been numerous diagnosis’ among extended family members that I was unaware of until last year (and I heavily suspect un-diagnosed cases for my older siblings + a niece as well).
I have MediCal, and last year started searching through them for specialists in Adult cases — I ran into walls almost every step of the way, as I only encountered Dr.’s for kids. Discouragement, and a period of personal upheaval, put my search on hold for the better part of a year. But I’m ready to jump back into my search again — I’m 99% positive I have one, if not both of them, and the amount of relief it would provide me to know for sure would be immeasurable.
I’m broke as all hell and can’t afford to endlessly pursue paid consultations and the like, so any advice or tips you have for trustworthy Dr.’s, organizations, etc. that could work with MediCal would be so, so, so very appreciated!
