Hey everyone,
I’m in a situation as follows: I’m a part time employee at Walmart and have become eligible for health insurance through Walmart. Since I’m part time, they do not offer coverage for my spouse.
My thought is: can I get the Walmart insurance, and my spouse apply through the marketplace whilst still getting the tax credit on my spouses plan?
The only way to cover my spouse through Walmart is if I worked full time, which I cannot. My only worry is if I get them coverage, I might get slapped with a massive tax credit repay bill at years end.
So to state it clearly:
I would get insurance through my employer, they do not offer spouse coverage because of my hours, but they DO offer spouse coverage to full time employees.
My spouse would get Marketplace coverage, do they qualify for the tax credit?
My income is below 400% poverty line.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Edit: our intent is enrolling me through my employer, and enrolling my spouse through marketplace with tax credit via special enrollment on Feb. 15th.
