Advice on whether to choose HDHP over EPO

I (33 M, single) will start my work at a new company and currently the company offered several choices of health plans from Aetna and Blue Shield of CA. Unfortunately they do not offer contribution to HSA or FSA, so it will be 100% from me if I choose to.

Among the plans that they offered I’m currently looking at:

Aetna HDHP Plan + HSA:

Premium: $115.80/month Deductible: $3000/year (in-network) Co-insurance: 0% (in-network) (with co-pay range from $400 to $750 per visit or confinement) Out ot pocket limit: $6000

Aetna EPO Open Access:

Premium: $159.16/month Deductible: $0 (in-network only) Co-insurance: 0% (in-network only) (with co-pay for certain visits ($400) and in-patient care (5 days x $500/day)) Out ot pocket limit: $4000

Both seems to be a great plan. My expected medical expenses for a year would be 3-4 times Primary care visit, blood check, STD tests (2x per year), and generic cholesterol lowering medication for the whole year. Projected expenses will be less than $1000 although I’m wary of hidden fees or charges that usually go behind the co-pay in traditional insurance.

It seems that I can save more money with the HDHP plan + HSA but the EPO plan gives me more peace of mind with its $0 deductible and 0% co-insurance.

Anything important that I need to consider before making my decision?
