I live in Los Angeles (20-something male) and until last February, had my insurance through Loomis, a bare bones plan. Over the course of last year, I went and got COVID tests 3 times here in LA, largely because the understanding was that it was free. They asked for health insurance (even though apparently they didn’t require it) so I obliged my info.
Now, Loomis is trying to get me to pay $750, $250/each, for these visits. Everyone I’ve talked to says that’s ridiculous and these tests were free as long as they weren’t the “rapid” tests. But, I’m not sure the best way to go about contesting that.
After this happened I left their insurance on the principal of that alone, and have a new Insurance plan under Covered CA.
But, I still have these bills, I don’t want them to start to accrue interest, I’d love to figure out how to correctly contest them based on the information I understand that the COVID tests are meant to be free.
Any input on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
