I added my partner to my healthcare when she lost her job a couple years back. Today I opened a piece of mail addressed to me (the health insurance policy is in my name) for her unpaid bill. It’s a small amount, likely a co-pay that got overlooked, but it made me wonder a couple things.
Am I ultimately liable for her medical bills because I am the policy holder? Can my credit be affected by her unpaid medical related bills? Can companies really contact me for things related to her medical visits? This seems wrong to me from a medical privacy standpoint, but maybe it’s different when it comes to money. I know I would not want anyone else contacted for my issues; health, financial, or otherwise, so this really makes me uneasy.
