I made an appointment to establish care at a physician since I’m new to the area and this is my first job as an adult with health insurance. I havent been to the doctor since I was 17 before this. I’m 24 now. I go say I want to establish care and get a pap smear and std testing as well. He said he couldnt do the pap smear but could do std testing and asked why I wanted to. I said I had tested positive for an std prior and wanted to make sure it was clear now. He then asked general questions one of them being do you have anxiety? I said yes I do get anxiety and think I might have social anxiety. He prescribes me a pill and then sends me to do blood work. I denied the blood work cause I knew I’d be charged for it and I’m broke. I check my claim today and they billed the appointment as generalized anxiety disorder?? I look on the patient portal and he mentions how I state I have anxiety and how I asked for std testing because I was anxious and scared I still had one. Because of this instead of std testing and the appointment being paid 100% I’m being billed $400. I called the billing at the hospital and they said they would review it but because of the clinic vote it would likely not be considered wellness/preventive but anxiety office visit. Then I called the insurance and they said they’d look into it but its based off what hospital says when they ask to recode… SO how screwed am I? Anything yall recommend I do?
