A bit of background. I’m a 25 year old female in Texas making about $2,800/month at a temporary job. I have not had insurance since I was 19, but every month in 2022, I’ve had some type of illness or injury. I’ve taken it as a sign from the universe that I need to grow up and get health care.
I didn’t sign up through my job or ACA, so I’m looking at short term plans. One of them is $100/month (I’d like to pay $100-$300/month) and has a deductible of $15,000. I want to make sure I’m understanding this right & I’ll use my current situation as an example:
I’m currently experience knee pain because of fall. If I were to go to the hospital to get checked out by a doctor, do an x-ray, etc & my total bill was $15,000, would I be responsible for the entire bill all on my own? Would my insurance not cover any of it because it didn’t exceed the deductible? From what I’m gathering that would be the case, but I’m really not sure. I’d greatly appreciate some help and clarification. This is all very confusing, so I appreciate any help that I can get.
