Yesterday I visited a private doctor (he is covered by the insurance) and his office schedule a endoscopy for tomorrow in a hospital. The doctor’s office told me the procedure was covered by the insurance but in the papers they gave me it says the anesthesia might not be covered.
Today I called the hospital but they couldn’t tell me the amount I would had to pay.
Then I called the insure, which apparently it’s two different ones. One is Empire for the hospital and the other one is EmblemHealth for the medical plan.
One of them told me the anesthesia itself is partially covered but I would have to pay like $200 for the gas(?).
The other one told me the anesthesiologist is not covered but they can’t tell until the day of the procedure how much I would have to pay.
I’m asking for your help about what I can do in this situation. I don’t want to have to pay for things that are outside my insure when the doctor I went is covered by my insurance. This morning I have been reading the horror histories about the thousand of dollars surprise bills people get when the anesthesiologist is not covered by the insurance.
Should I cancel the procedure and go to a different doctor that can do the procedure with an anesthesiologist that’s covered by my insurance?
Should I have the procedure anyway, don’t sign anything and then not pay the “surprise” bill?
Is this the place to ask this question or is there subreddit that can help me better?
What do you think I should do?
Thank you in advanced!
