Hi everyone
I recently had a horrible left arm pain that started at around 9pm. my arm felt extremely weak and was hurting and I almost felt a burning sensation. I also had chest discomfort/pressure. As my family (on both sides) have suffered through heart conditions and I’ve had relatives pass from a heart attack, I decided to go to my closest ER at 1 am (since my arm pain got worse).
I had an EKG done and a CT Scan done on my head and luckily, everything came back normal.
I have Anthem as my insurer and I checked my claims this morning and for whatever reason, there was 2 from the ER and they were approved.
However, the bill from the ER was a total of $10k and Anthem will only cover about $2k of it.
I checked my covered services and it says that an ER visit will be covered (even if it’s out of network) with a $250 copay, as long as it’s an emergency. I checked Anthems website and it clearly states that if you’re feeling left arm pain and chest pain, you should go to the ER as it is an emergency.
Im not sure how to appeal or what to do now since I’ve never been in this situation before. I don’t have $8k to pay, can someone please advise??
Should I appeal?
