Anthem PPO covers Upper Endoscopy, but not anesthesia? 😢

This is the first time I’ve had a procedure done. I’ve made sure that the doctor’s facility is in-network. They told me my total bill will only be $600 for an Upper Endoscopy.

Lo and behold, I get a separate anesthesia bill for $5500, after Anthem only deducted $200!

Apparently, the anesthesiologist isn’t in-network. How was I supposed to know that? It’s not like you can inquire for an ā€œin-networkā€anesthesiologist beforehand, right? Anyone had a similar experience & has submitted a dispute/additional claim?
