I was originally denied prior authorization for a procedure, so I submitted an internal appeal with my health insurance company. I received a letter from my insurance dated last thursday saying that they have approved my appeal and submitted the prior authorization into their records.
Then on tuesday, I called my insurance company to make sure that they mailed a copy of the approval to my surgeon, because my surgeon said that they hadn’t received a letter about this. On the phone with insurance, not only were they unable to confirm if they sent a letter to my surgeon or not, they also said that in their system my prior authorization was still saying “denied”.
Is it normal for it to take some time after an appeal has been approved for it to update in the health insurance’s system? If so, how long is normal for this? Also is it normal for it to take longer for my insurance to contact the medical provider than they took to contact me about it?
Any advice would be appreciated- I assume that receiving the approval letter means I’m good to go even if it takes some time… I’m just overall nervous about it since the call.
