Sorry, I’m posting on mobile. My husband and I have different insurance plans (I have Aetna he has bcbs). Our new baby was added by us to my husbands insurance a few days after the baby was born.
When I received my medical bills, they were extremely high. I checked my insurance and saw that the baby was added to my insurance plan for this first thirty days of life. This changed my deductible because I was on a “family plan” due to the baby.
I called my insurance and they stated it was my employers fault. After multiple calls with my employer who show that they did not tell my insurance to add the baby, I’m instructed to have the insurance company conduct a three-way call between myself, the employer and the insurance. When I suggested this to the insurance company, they put me on hold then told me it was not actually my employer’s fault, but it was the hospital’s fault! How does the hospital have control over who is added to an insurance plan?!
After some digging I read about the “birthday rule”- which works in my favor as my husbands birthday is before mine in a calendar year. When I mentioned this, the insurance company told me to file an appeal.
I have no idea which appeal form to complete and what info to include- please help!
TLDR- baby should’ve been added to my husbands insurance during the first 30 days of life, but was added to mine. I need help with Aetna’s appeals process (which form to complete, what info to add to give me a fighting chance)
