Bill is much higher than expected and claims are not showing up on my account? (UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus/Student Resources)

I recently was billed the cost of my mental health appointments and the cost was much, much higher than I expected. When I initially scheduled these appointments, the provider had called my insurance (with the number that’s on my ID card) and confirmed the cost with me, so I knew what my expected costs were going to be.

I have called the insurance and the provider’s office in order to figure out why my costs are much higher than I was told. I called the office first and they told me my account was coming up as “not eligible,” so I called the insurance. Insurance confirmed that my account was active as well as the fact that my provider was in-network (I have also searched through UnitedHealthcare Medical and Behavioral to confirm that my providers are in-network, and they are). They told me to call the office to confirm that the office took my insurance. I called the office again, and they told me that they accepted UnitedHealthcare but they weren’t sure if Choice Plus/Student Resources was covered.

My first question is: is UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus/Student Resources going to be listed separately from UnitedHealthcare?

After calling, I checked my account and noticed that there were no claims for my appointments. I had claims for prescription medications, so I know claims are working, but there are none for my appointments. No pending or denial or anything. I checked my insurance on file with the office (through their website) and noticed that my insurance is listed as “UnitedHealthcare Medicare” and that my ID has two extra 0’s in front. As far as I’m aware, my insurance is NOT UnitedHealthcare Medicare, though I’m not sure if the extra 0’s affect my insurance or not.

When I tried to update my insurance via the website, I noticed they only had two options for UnitedHealthcare: UnitedHealthcare and UnitedHealthcare Medicare. I’m not sure if either one of these is correct.

Second question: Is it possible that the office is sending my claims to the wrong place?

I plan on calling the office later to confirm which insurance they are billing.

Lastly, I am fairly certain that my providers are in-network, but is there any chance that my providers might not be covered by my insurance? Maybe there’s something I missed or misunderstood?
