Hello all,
I will explain my situation to ya’ll as I’m not sure what to do. I live in Texas (if the ya’ll didn’t give me away) and I am a full-time grad student who is a dependent under a 100% disabled veteran and I receive educational benefits from his service.
Because he is a veteran, he gets free healthcare that I do not qualify for (I’m 24, the age limit for his VA dependency insurance is 23). I’m in a weird age limbo. I’m terrified because I have a chronic illness and open enrollment is emerging and I am getting mixed answers on this. I have to take daily medication to keep my organs functioning.
I cannot find a straight-forward answer about this and it is driving me crazy; Can a dependent have their own insurance plan? If so, why not?
Thank you in advance.
