Can an appeal be successful?

Hi all, I have a question. I recently had spinal surgery at a hospital that was under the company of the hospital that I work for. Also the surgeons were providers of that company. I wasn’t charged for the surgeons, however I noticed a claim for 6k was denied for a neuro service during my surgery (basically monitoring my nerves)

I called my carrier (Aetna) and they said those services were out of network, I had no idea something like that was going to occur during my surgery. I filed an appeal stating I was not made aware of this (I even called my insurance to see what was covered and not prior to surgery and they did not mention this).

My question is, has anyone ever filed a successful appeal? And pretty much do I even have a chance to not have to pay this hefty bill?

Thank you
