My wife has an outpatient procedure tomorrow under general anesthesia at a hospital and we have received a prepayment bill based on an estimate with our insurance. (BCBC-NC)
I know it’s increasingly common for these facilities to ask for prepayment before service to avoid chasing people down. I understand the motive, but my question is does the request really carry any weight?
If we politely request to wait to pay immediately upon receipt of our insurance EOB, will that likely be sufficient? Or could we actually see them deny service unless the payment is made?
