I went to the foot doctor last week for custom orthotics. Their policy is to ask for $600 up front then “reimburse me” when insurance pays. I knew my insurance covers orthotics so I went through with it.
My insurance ended up paying $300, and now the doctor wants to reimburse me for $300 but keep my extra $300 to make up for the difference. So he’s taking the $300 insurance paid and charging me an extra $300 on top of that.
Is that even legal? They did make me sign an ABN but I didn’t think it was to pay an extra fee on top of a service covered by insurance.
