My husband and I are both on my employer’s HDHP/HSA plan. We’re also both covered under his unions PPO insurance plan that’s not a HDHP. It’s been this way for years and today I was researching some things and discovered we either absolutely can’t be covered under both, or we can but I’m not supposed to be eligible to contribute to my HSA. Not really clear on which. I only contribute $5 a week to my HSA. Also, my husband has to work so many hours each quarter to qualify for his insurance. If he doesn’t work enough hours he has to pay out of pocket or use money from his FSA to pay the premiums to keep coverage. That’s why we’ve always kept us on both plans because he works construction and has never been able to qualify for insurance all year. No one has ever brought this up as an issue. I’ve filed both insurances on a couple of occasions and his insurance just asks for an EOB from my primary insurance to determine what they will cover. We file all of the required information with our taxes and it’s never been brought up as an issue there either. Any advice or insight is appreciated!
