Can I cancel my employer provided insurance if I also have Medicaid?

I’ve been paying for insurance through my employer for quite some time, but it is extraordinarily expensive. Just for myself it is ~$350 per month. If I were to add my wife and children it would be thousands per month. I am already qualified for Medicaid based on income, and I have a card for usage as my secondary insurance.

My question is if Medicaid eligibility is based at all upon weather or not you have a primary employer-offered insurance? If I were to cancel my employer coverage to save money I need to cover my family’s other expenses, would I also lose Medicaid because I am declining an insurance option available to me in favor of Medicaid?

Trying to figure it out before I cancel it and then it’s too late until my next open enrollment period. Thank you for any help!
