Can I still be on my parents insurance UNDER 26?

My mother’s work insurance was not very good so she decided to purchase some marketplace insurance through bcbstx, however when she was attempting to add me to the insurance it kept getting rejected.

We decided to call them and ask why, and they said since I file my own taxes, I cannot be on her insurance – which surely can’t be true, I’ve been filing my own taxes since I was 18, and I’ve been on my parent’s insurance up until this moment.

We asked the manager and she said the same thing.

I was under the impression if you’re under 26 you can be on their insurance plans, no if’s ands or buts?

Also my younger brother is on the plan, but he does not have a job so he does not file taxes.

Can anyone confirm if this is true?
