Can I Use an HRA to Pay Medical Collections?

Edited to add: Age: 24 Zip: 10550 Income range: $40,000-50,000

I have an employer-provided HRA (Health Reimbursement Account). I also have some medical bills that were recently referred to collections. These bills/expenses were eligible expenses during my plan period (both the plan period and HRA are still current) and I have the Explanations of Benefits for the amounts, as required my the HRA servicer.

I would normally be able to use the HRA to pay the original creditors (doctors/hospitals) but genuinely have had no time lately to address personal matters, hence the debts going unpaid and referred to collections.

Can I use the HRA account to pay the debt collectors? Or would I only be able use it if paying to the original creditors as reflected on the EOBs from my insurance?

TIA for any help/input! I appreciate it a lot.
