Started a new job, and I have to get insurance for me and my wife. I have choices for multiple plans, but I’ve narrowed it down to two. One is a PPO and the other is an EPP. The PPO will be roughly $170 extra a month. I can’t understand why its so much more, so I’m trying to make sure I’m not missing something.
PPO: $1,000 individual/ $1,500 individual (plus spouse or children)/ $2,000 family in-network medical only deductible. $250 per family annual deductible for in network prescriptions.
OOP is $6,250 individual/$9,375 individual (plus spouse) combined medical and prescription. $30 Copay primary, $60 specialist. Drugs Tier 1 $10, or $20 mail order, Tier 2 25% co ($200 max), Tier 3 50% ($200 max), Tier 4 $300.
Everything else is exactly the same with other plan
EPP: $2,000 self only coverage/ $3,000 self-only (plus spouse or children) combined medical and prescription deductible. No prescription deductible.
OOP is $4,000 self only/$5,500 self only (plus spouse or children). Prescription tiers and prices are the same.
I don’t understand why the PPO is so much more expensive, can anyone help me understand? And why does the EPP say self only? Is that different than the PPO?
EPP would be around $330 a month, but PPO is $500.
