Hi everyone,
So I’m currently in a sticky situation. I recently gained coverage through my partner’s insurance. I previously had coverage under my employer. Now I am terminating these benefits, however, they have not fulfilled my request due to lack of sufficient documentation. Apparently I only had 30 days from this gain of coverage to submit the required documents. I submitted proof of detailed plan information with the year of coverage and my name listed only to get a reply 2 weeks later saying I needed to submit a document with a clear effective date. I just called to submit the missing document and now they are telling me that it’s too late because it’s been over 30 days and it’s an IRS related matter. They said submit the missing document anyway and maybe they will make an exception but they said it was unlikely. So here I am stuck with two insurance plans and I won’t be able to cancel the old one until October! This is costing me way too much. What can I do about my situation?
