We have insurance through my wife’s job, it’s perfectly fine except it doesn’t cover IVF (we are in NY, but it’s a large group policy so for some reason it doesn’t cover IVF). So last year, we took out a secondary policy through my job (my primary, her secondary) specifically so IVF is covered. Tentative good news: it worked! However, to be cautious, it’s still too early to know if we need to keep this secondary insurance — again only needed for IVF.
Here’s the kicker, open enrollment for my company is already over. Next week is the adjustment week, but my wife will only be 6 weeks pregnant at the time.
If all goes well, by the time the new policy kicks in, the secondary insurance (my primary) will pretty much be unnecessary, and cost us about $13,000 over the year.
Is there any way we can cancel the policy after the adjustment period?
